I need a good AM radio, my current one has crappy reception, even though in the exact same spot, my car picks up the signal good!

For straight-up AM, GE makes a "Super Tuner" large portable / table-top that's has great sensitivity, and excellent tone (AM or FM, FM stereo to headphones/external speakers).

I think Amateur Electronic Supply (AES) still carries them (www.aesham.com), thay also carry the CCRane, Sangean, Sony ... others).

I think the CCrane is ~US$150.00 or so, the GE is ~50-60.00.

Both support external antennas, both have very good sound quality. The GE has a larger speaker set. Both run on "D" cells or AC power (attached/included cable).

The CCrane also has weather and TV (broadcast channels) audio. I believe the CCrane is a Sangean-made radio.

For the money, I like the GE ... performance-wise, I can't believe the CCrane is $100 better, but it does give you the extra bands.

GE Radio from AES
Good Luck

Oh the joys of AM listening in the evening.

Summer evenings are filled with lightning crashes or sferics.

And the old days (unfortunately this really dates me) of the portable tube sets - the gentle buzz from the vibrator. Those were the days.

Check ebay. Lots of stuff there. Telefunken is one of our favorite sets. :)
