So I'm not giving up completely on the old HP 722c for the old man, but I'm conceding to get him a good Wifi printer he can use on his Win7/64 setup for laptops.

I don't really want an All-In-One, cuz I need to keep it suuuuuuper simple for him. But if necessary, I can just tell him to ignore everything else except for printing.

Any suggestions??

(Cheapest Canons on newegg don't have easily-found cheap ink. The next up series has finicky WiFi and the Epsons have too many menu options. I'm still looking but up for suggestions as I search)

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 722C used the largest capacity ink carts HP had in consumer printers, so any HP replacement will cost more per page for printing; there's no way around it, so just to put that up front.

Is Dad still using the same PC the 722C was used w/?

If so be careful what you buy; if the PC was contemporaneous w/ a 722C it may be running WIN95 or WIN98 and current offerings from almost any Printer Mfr will probably NOT work correctly w/ that O/S..regardless of any claims to the contrary by the Mfr

Got it. Ya, I figured as much. (In the other thread in this sub forum, I babble on in details, but long story-short, he's got 2 Win7 laptops in the house now).

I'll probably still get his old desktop up & running (it has native parallel port) and then I know how to do the Win7/64 patch for driver but I also think ultimately he needs to get a good wifi printer & be done. (Actually he has one now, but it's his fax machine. He doesn't know it & it's black only so I tell him it prints via "magic" & that settles it) ;)

As for new printers, I'm game.....I'm 5 minutes from Monoprice so I have about an ocean full of cheap ink 5 minutes from me. ;)

Does it have to be color and ink based?

I have the Brother MFC-7860DW, and while it is an all-in-one, I only use it for printing, and it has been rock solid, fast, and the toner is cheap.

Ya, it's gotta be color & ink. Heck, I'd love to do a color-toner for him but ain't happenin.

Per thread post #3, he *does* actually have a black toner printer that's WiFi (he didn't even know it til I noticed he had it, set it up & was good) but he wants/likes/whatever to print in color too so I figured I'll give him what he wants.

I'm thinking that Brother 450 is looking better & better the more I read cuz *I* can get cartridges at Monoprice, but the old man can also get 'em easily via Amazon generics from more than 1 supplier as well. THAT'S what I want to see!!!

Sound good??

With the need for color and ink-based, the Brother 450 sounds good to me, particularly if you have multiple sources of cheaper than name-brand ink.
