recommend a good mobo

i'm building my father a new computer. i'm going with an amd xp 2400+. any suggestions on a good board to get? i was looking at the asus a7v8x-x. also what brand of memory? thinking about crucial.

For AMD chips I only recommend NF2 motherboards. There are lots of nice models out there, what were you looking to spend and what features do you require?

I still like the Via chipsets. Check out the KT-600 based mobos from Abit, MSI or Soltek...

I like the Asus A7N8X and Kingston or Corsair, or MSI K7N2 Delta L and Samsung or Kingston.

What's your father going do use it for?

I don't game here and have an XP 2400+ which I put on an ECS L7S7A2 motherboard with 768 MB of PC2100 RAM. The 256b MB stick is crucial and I can't remember what the 512 MB stick is except I think it's pretty generic. This has been a good system and was pretty cost effective. I'm not sure what experience others have had with this board, but it's been good for me.
