I'v decided to go with MiniDisk over a portalbe mp3 player. The players cost about the amse, but MD media is way cheaper.

Now i gotta decide on a MD that is both good but cheap. A low-end Sony would be a good bet.

but how about other manufacturers? do you know of any models that are around the $200 US mark?

I know of someone selling a SWEET MD player dirt cheap! You might want to check it out: link ;)
Seriously though, this one is real nice. I did my research... and OH A HELL of a lot of research at that until I finally decided to go w/ the AM-C80. I absolutely love the backlight on both the unit and the remote... I believe this is the only player w/ that. It's also very tiny and compact and outputs the most to your headphones out of any player I know of... 10mw compared to the usual 5mw, so it's plenty loud. Also many say the bass boost is much better than the 3 step boost sony's provide (or is it 2 step?). Overall great player... If I wasn't so darn broke I would keep it, but you know how it is :(

I would reccomend Sharp's over Sony's if that's what you're considering. For the most part, all other manufacturers base their MD recorders off of Sharp units. I'm guessing that you need a recorder as well as a player. My suggestion is to check out several online retailors, one being Minidisco, and look at what they have to offer. The unit Madcowz is selling really is an excellent unit - if you can get him closer to your price range, I say go for it. Hell, even if he keeps his price where it is its still a great deal (with discs, etc.). One of the nice features this unit has that many others don't is the backlit display on the main unit. Its not a huge feature, but its nice. :)

You probably also should check out Minidisc T-Station for reviews of both equipment and online retailors. I hope I've helped you in your search.
