Recommend a good Laser MultiFunction Printer/Scanner/Fax

need a good laser printer based copy/scanner/fax with an automatic document feeder. would like for it to have the ability to scan from the adf and output to a pdf or ocr program. need atleast 30-50page adf. speed is not too important but i would like good quality laser output as i am used to HP laserjets at either 600x600 or 1200x1200. for photos and small amounts of scanning i also have a seperate canon unit for that. obviously the lower priced the better, but will spend as this thing will be used quite a bit in a home office setting, probably 2000+ pages a month. would like to get rid of the hp1100 and seperate fax and just have one unit with one toner cartridge, not this current setup that is a toner cartridge and then the fax film, getting expensive.

thanks 😉

You want color output or just color scanning?

Both samsung and xerox have some models but what is your budget?

I had a HP 3100 that I used for a few years until lightning took it out. The 3100 had great features but its tendency to misfeed paper was frustrating. I replaced it with a PC modem for fax and a used Laserjet 4 printer off ebay. I also have an ancient HP flatbed scanner with a scsi interface and an ADF

no color output required and actually the scanning will just be limited to copying, so that can be whatever the printer portion needs. i guess my budget would be as little as possble to ~$350 or so

wouldn't happen to be a 4p/c scanner would it? i just gave one to a friend... i could probably pick up the adf on ebay for cheap but i want something that is more standalone, so the wife can use it without problems, but thanks for the thought 🙂

Yes, it's a 4C. I got it a couple of years ago on ebay with the ADF. I don't believe it will work with XP, though.

that was my first scanner, i bought it in ~96 or so, i think mine was the 4p, it was $500 where the 4c was ~$800 without the adf. excellent machine, kind of like a boat anchor. i read on the hp site it may work with xp but i don't want to lug that thing back just to find out it doesn't...plus i would need to pick up a adf which are like ~$50+ on ebay.

My office workhorse is the black and white Brother MFC-8820D. It's a great machine. Very reliable and cheap toner refills off of ebay (~$35 for 6000 sheet).
