Recommend a good IDE driver please

I am having lots of trouble with my computer at the moment. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and warcraft 3 crash and freeze constantly, and when I reboot, most of the times the BIOS can't find any of my IDE drives.

I suspect the nVidia IDE driver.

Can anyone recommend me a better one? I have found one called "Intel Bus Master" but I'm not sure it's the correct one.. help wanted 🙂

if the bios cant find the drives then a driver wont help you at all

check the cables first
then make a backup of your data, the disks might be loosing it
small chance you could be having a power problem, not enough juice coming out of the psu

From Add/Remove Programs, remove the Nvidia IDE driver. The MS one will be installed after you reboot.

This will tell you if its the culprit.

Personally I've used it since NF2 for years without an issue pointing to the IDE driver, but as always YMMV.

Hmm .. well sometimes the bios will find the drives and sometimes it won't. I don't think it's anything physical like the cabling - because it was working fine just before I reformatted the computer yesterday .. and I think I was running with some other IDE driver, just can't remember which 🙁 But will try the MS one.

Well, like Czar said, if the BIOS can't detect the drive sometimes, then any OS or driver fix isn't going to do anything for you.

I too suggest looking more closely at the motherboard and hardware. Try swapping the drive(s) to the secondary channel and see if it starts working. Or if you have a spare drive, try ghosting your main to the spare and run from the spare for a while. maybe it's a bad hard drive.
