Recommend a good free MPEG-2 decoder?

I'm not able to play DVDs or use my TV tuner card, since an MPEG-2 codec is required. Can anyone recommend a good free one I can get? I'm running XP Media Center.

Isnt that some shat?
An operating system called "Media Center" and it doesnt play DVD's.

Anywho, it would seem that when I installed DVD Shrink I was somehow able to play DVD's in Windows Media Player.
I had not installed anything else, so I can only assume the Shrink did it for me.

nevermind.. I realized I had an old copy of PowerDVD lying around. I installed that.. works OK now.

Sheesh.. someone really needs to release a free MPEG2 codec. This kinda stuff should be available to anyone at no cost.

Bah, I tried Elecard.. let's just say it doesn't belong on free-codecs.com. Right away there was this dialog about activation/purchase.

Yeah there are a couple included in ffdshow but I don't know if that is useable by MC. In any case they are relatively basic compared to commerical offerings, particularly lacking HWA although that is not critical unless the CPU is quite dated.

BS player with Combined Community Codec Pack . Its the best codec pack i have used and it works and configured by anime subber/encoder community.

Combined Community Codec Pack is good if all you watch is Anime. Otherwise I recommend the K-Lite Codec Pack, which includes pretty much everything you'll ever need to play, hrm, anything.
