We need to get a camera at work, mostly for taking pictures of small parts close up. I know some cameras I've used are terrible at taking close up (macro?) shots, and some are awesome at it.

Can anyone recommend a low cost camera that is good for this type of usage?

thanks in advance!

Canon A470

Here are a couple of full-size sample macros I just took. The camera can actually focus right up to the front of the lens, but it's hard to light a subject when it's that close to the camera.

thanks for the advice jpeyton. I was hoping a Canon would be recommeded, as I (or I should say my wife) has had good luck with their point and shoot cameras

That picture tells me this camera will do exactly what I want.

Remember to get some sort of tripod; even a cheap one can hold a small camera steady. Macros turn out so much better with a tripod.

To take those sample pictures, I put the camera dial "M" manual mode, went to the settings menu and turned on "Super-Macro", set the ISO to 80, turned the flash off, and turned on the self-timer for 10 seconds. Using this method, you can get really sharp macros of any still subject.

There is this camera that has insane macro ability. You can even take a macro shot of a rice grain by putting it in front of a filter.
I forgot the name or brand. What I remember is that it's quite an old camera; something like +4~5 years old.
