Hi all,

I'm desperately trying to recover some data from a USB drive. I formatted my Thinkpad, and saved all the relevant files on my Maxtor USB - even checked to make sure that the data was in fact there and could be read.

I started the format after verifying that the files were present. At that time, I went to my DESKTOP to add the files on there as a secondary backup. The DESKTOP was in Hibernate when I plugged the USB in. Windows booted fine, but when I went to check for the newly added backup files -- THEY WERE NOT THERE! [crap].

I'm thinking windows had the drive mounted already in hibernate??

Anyhow, I verified the files were missing when I got the same result plugging in the USB into the laptop.

How can I recover the data that was there prior to me plugging the drive into the desktop?

Thanks all!

CLIFFS:
1) Backup files put on USB Drive
2) USB drive plugged into another computer already in Hibernate
3) USB drive backup files not present when computer came out of Hibernate
4) Files not found when plugged into the laptop, either
5) Please help, I'm an idiot and should have planned better.

EDIT: Recover My Data v 3.9 didn't recognize any of the "missing" files

GetDataBack NTFS v 3.03 worked very well, I recommend it to anyone in this situation. It also works for NAND storage / flash drives.

I'm going to see if Linux will see the data now that the data has been recovered.
