Recommend a good data plan for me

So I have a friend that is going to give me his blackberry 7100, he doesn't want it anymore.

I am looking at data plans for cingular and I am a little confused. Do you add the data plan on top of your calling plan?

I currently have the $39.99 a month plan from cingular, and I would like to add a data plan but not spend an arm and a leg each month.

I would like to use it for:
-General web browsing if I am wating for class
-Checking my email
-Send, recieve and reply to messages

So any recommendations are appreciated 🙂

I think the 7100 is a Nextel phone. I don't think it will work with the new at&t.

sell it on ebay and get a blackjack.

the blackjack gets a $20 unlimited plan and uses HSDPA which I get around 700Kb/s down from.

I love this thing. Use Orb to stream my home video (flawless), IM with it (no sms charge since the prog I got uses data), Use it as a music player (does stereo bluetooth). Made me fall in love with google maps... which is a standalone app for windows mobile OS.

The blackberry has ridiculous rates for their data plan and is outdated when it comes to wireless speeds.

i have treo 700p with sprint and i pay $30/month for 500 anytime minutes and unlimited internet. SERO.

Well I already have a plan with cingular and I am currently using a Razr. I thought that if my friend gave me his Blackberry I could just get a data plan so I could surf the net, check email, and IM or text people and what not.


Is this not possible?

Your definition of "an arm and a leg" will greatly affect the outcome of this thread.

While we're on the subject is it possible to get a decent data plan with Verizon or am I pretty much SOL? I really like the coverage in my area but their data plans are pretty darn expensive.

It is very possible if that is all you want to do. However, the only data plan worth getting is the unlimited no matter what phone you have.

The thing that sucks about having a blackberry with cingular is that they have data plans made specifically for the blackberry. And those plans are much more expensive.

Best thing to do is call cingular up when you have the phone and go through the options with them on which unlimited plan is right for you.
