A simple (or EASY to do) search on newegg produced 4 pages of LCD's in that size and price range. Filter for DVI and you get 12 to chose from. The lower price ones are crap and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. To get a decent one, you'll need to spend close to (or over) $300. Scroll down to the bottom of this page (if the link works) and see the ViewSonic and Sony models. The Acer and Princeton models look 'ok' but nothing to brag about.
I would recommend getting this display, but it's outside the price range you listed...
bit on what? I didnt say I didn't know how to search and find results that fit certain criteria. I was looking for recommendations from people with experience with buying/using these sorts of monitors greater $$ does not always mean better quality you do realize? There almost is always the diamond in the rough that is little known and worth as much as a component twice its price.
I used to stick with ViewSonic branded LCD's since I had excellent results with them. I picked up a Samsung not that long ago and it blows ALL others out of the water. I have the 910T with it's 1000:1 contrast ratio. Simply put, white is WHITE and black is BLACK at that level. Even if they are 10% off on the contrast spec (which I don't think they are) it STILL blows the rest out of the water.
