Recommend a good capture card!

I'm looking at archiving our family movies, and need to purchase a capture card for my PC. Something around 100$, it would be extra nice if it came with a DVD authoring program as well.

TV is not necessary, I see alot of people using ATI or Hophog (whatever) but if I can get a better capture card without it then thats fine.

How about the KWorld Xpert DVD Maker PCI. It's only $29 bucks, but it does come with a $50 DVD Authoring program.... the Cyberlink Power Producer 2 Gold.

I own two of these puppies for my wife and I... love the capture card, love the DVD Authoring software.

That looks really good!

If I understand correctly, if both my camcorder and MB have firewire, then I do not need any hardware, just software?

Hmmm... well, the capture card is great (I have my VCR attached to mine, and my wife has her "old-school" camcorder attached to hers), but if you don't need a capture card at all, then I recomend just pick up the software.

Here's a link for a steal of a deal... it's Cyberlink's Power Producer 3 program (which is even better then the one that comes bundled with the capture card). Get this... it's only $10 bucks! I liked Power Producer 2 Gold so much, I got my hands on PP3 from this link in just a few days (I Fed-X'd it). As an added bonus, you also get Power Director 3 on the same CD.

I use my capture card and Power Producer 3 all the time... great program (not that PP2Gold was bad at all)! If you go to Cyberlink's website, they're selling the same software from the manufacturer's site for $70 bucks. Software Outlet sells the OEM CD, but who cares... for $10 bucks and a great easy to use program, you can't go wrong.
