So I'm nearing the end of Oblivion w/ all the expansions and I loved the HELL out of that game. I already beat all of Fallout 3 which I also loved.

That said, those were my first 'real' RPGs because before now none of them really held my interest. Oblivion really changed my whole view of RPGs.

I'm looking for something as large as these games with all sorts of shit to do, though they don't have to be RPGs. I played mass effect and it didn't do anything for me. I got bored with Left 4 Dead in about 3 days, I've already beat GOW2.

How is Fable 2, BioShock? How does it compare to Oblivion for those of you who have played both?

Fable 2 is a decent length, but nowhere near Oblivion. I rented BioShock when it came out and beat it within a few days. It's a fairly linear FPS so there's not a lot of incentive to go back unless you really enjoyed it the first time around (or want to see the 'other' ending, there being multiple).

Fable 2 would probably be considered a light version of Oblivion. The world isn't quite as big but there's just as much if not more depth in regards to relationships, economy, etc. Combat is simpler but still very enjoyable.

Bioshock is a FPS with RPG elements. Great story and environment though.

Both games are pretty good, but neither are anything like Oblivion or FO3.

Hmmm alright, I've heard BioShock was too short, are there any games out there with the depth of Oblivion?

I thought Fable 2 was pretty short personally, a good game but short.

Well, you've already ruled out Fallout 3 and Mass Effect. I'm really struggling to come up with anything else for the 360 that is as much of a time-sinker. Those Bethesda games have so much content.

It sounds like Saint's Row 2 has lots to do (I haven't played it yet), and GTA IV probably to a lesser extent. The recent DLC episode adds a great deal of additional content, though (basically a separate game).

For something different entirely, there are some cheap and meaty racing games like Burnout Paradise. It will keep you busy with single-player races, online challenges/races, and free DLC like the bikes pack. Test Drive Unlimited is an older title, but it has a fair amount of content as well. Forza 2 is also probably worth mentioning, considering it has a dedicated group of ACTG members with probably the oldest active thread in this subforum.

Yeah I'm not super interested in sports or racing games, I should have said that in my initial post. GTA IV bored the shit out of me, I got rid of it after two weeks. Saints Row was fun, haven't played 2, but those games get old too quickly. The novelty wears off too quick.

Ugh, maybe I'll just go replay Oblivion again as a new character.

Fable 2 is a ten hour special. It's fun to fart at random citizens and beat them up for a little bit, but there isn't very much meat to the game. It's a good rental.

BioShock is a great experience...the first time you play it. There is literally no reason to replay the game past the first time. Slightly different ten second endings are not a compelling reason to replay a game.

I'd recommend either Mass Effect or FallOut 3.

Please read the OP next time.

Thanks for the info about BS and F2 though.

Loved F3 and Oblivion..

Bioshock and Fable 2 were both great games, definately worth a playthrough but probibly not a wise purchase (replay wise).
Certainly enjoyable if you can rent, borrow, or buy them cheap.

Mass Effect is a good reccomendation too, depending on how you feel about sci-fi.. It has a bit more depth and replayability in the character build (like OB, F3), but it does feel quite a bit more repetative.

While all games reuse similar buildings, terrains, etc, it seems much more obvious in Mass Effect ( my only real complaint about the game).

I'm really enjoying Fable 2.

everyone says it's short (esp. compared against the 50+ hour jrpg's), but I got it used for like $20 and there's already 2 dlc's out for it, so I def. feel like I've gotten my money's worth.

I also really enjoyed Eternal Sonata, though I put it on hold to play F2.

I know it's not a console game and I know this is the console gaming forum, but if you like big RPGs with big worlds to explore, either of the STALKER games would be perfect for you. They are PC only but they remind me a lot of Fallout 3. If you have a fast enough PC you will love them.

As for consoles, I'm not really sure. I played Fallout 3 on my 360 and liked it, but once I finished, I never felt compelled to play it again. Can't think of any other really BIG RPGs for the 360.

It really sounds like Oblivion-type games are your cup of tea. I don't know of another game like it in both genre, setting, and depth that is out right now. Dragon Age: Origins and The Witcher are coming out in the next year and should be very comparable.

I'd still give Fable 2 a try if you like Oblivion. At least a rental.

Thanks queasy, I'll keep my eye out. I've never been really one to play games like that but I have been completely sucked in by them. I have over 100 hours logged on my oblivion game and I'm almost done and it's leaving a void :p

AstroManLuca, tell me more about the Stalker games. I have a very new/fast PC and while I prefer 360 for gaming (easier, much bigger screen) I'm willing to check it out if I can't get my fix on the 360.

People have really mixed emotions on this one....

but for a dirt cheap pickup check out Viking: Battle for Asguard. I hated the first 30 minutes, but it really picked up and kept my interest after I got the hang of it. It really didn't do any one thing well...but it didn't do anything really bad either. It's got a very vast environment and is very easy to pick up and play. You can play it for 15 minutes at a time, or play it for hours.

Thanks I'll look into that one too.

Are any of the other expansions for Oblivion worth it/cool?

I'm assuming you have The Shivering Isles? It is easily the best expansion for Oblivion. Adds another 30 hours or so to the game. The other DLC is mostly of the individual quest variety though Knights of the Nine was a little larger but no where near Shivering Isles.

Yes I got the GOTY so I have Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, and I already beat them both

Shivering Isles was ok, the ending was pretty lame imo, you get all these cool powers but no reason to use them. So the rest of them are smaller?

Yep. Quest sized small. They are only $1 to $2 though.

You can get some neat stuff like a Wizard's tower as a home though.

If they're only a few bucks I might grab them all.

I really want to go back and redo my character this time after learning all the mistakes but I don't know if I can reinvest 100+ hours into something that I already know all the tricks to.
