My GF broke my old Samsung 2.1MP POS (LCD is FUXORED). She felt bad enough to get another camera for me. I'm looking for the following features:

1. Ability to take high quality pictures in low light environments
2. Compact Size
3. 3MP or higher
4. Around $300
Edit:
5. Uses CF Memory

I was looking at the Canon Powershot S series cameras, and they seem to be quite nice.

Any suggestions/deals?

That also gets my vote but it uses SD not CF media.

Also check out the Canon PowerShot A70 or S400.

What kind of batteries do those two take?

The SD100 would be SOLD if it didn't use SD memory. My old Samsung uses CF, and I have an 8MB and a 64MB I would like to use w/ the new camera. Is SD cheap?

The SD100 is $240 thru mysimon.com, and the lowest price for the S400 is $330.

SD memory constantly goes on sale at BB/CC. Picked up a 256mb card for $60 after rebate. $80 before hand.

What's the main difference between the A70/80 and the SD110/S400 series? The A series seems to be larger?

I picked up a 256mb CF card for 39.99 after rebate. $60 before.

Just got a 512 for 89.99 as well.

Oh another problem: Both of our card readers are CF only. Ack!

What OS are you running?

WinXP

Plug the camera in via USB and XP will automatically recognize it as a drive. You can then pull the photos off of it directly.

Yeah, my Samsung can do that too, but I didn't like the idea of pulling off the rubber boot everytime I need to pull the pictures off. It seems like removing the card and plugging that in to the reader caused a lot less wear on the camera.

Canon A70/75/80 - not as small as the elph's, but have a lot more features & control. with the A75 comin out, might be able to get a deal on the A70. but it prolly won't be in stores til april

What features does it have over the Elphs? Are they worth the extra size?

for me, who just wanted a nice, compact point and shoot camera, i bought the elph (S230) i didn't even look at the A series cause I didn't like the way they looked... but I am happy with my elph thats for sure. if you want some features you may wanna check them out though. there isn't that much customization available in my camera's settings.. but thats fine, it works for me... i am not a professional photographer :p

I'm looking for a similar digital cam as you asharus

I've been looking at the canon g2 and canon g3 recently.. I had an elph, the size was small but the battery life sucked! so i don't trust any elphs at all.

I want a bulkier camera.. more standard looking... plus the canon g2 is 4 mp. and $~300,

update this thread with the choice you made when you get the camera
