Hi,

Can someone recommend a good quality desktop or tabletop tripod? I am not trying to hold a SLR. I just want something that can hold my point and shoots and Creative Vado (like a Flip video camera) steady. I found a bunch but am not sure which are actually good. From casual reviews, it seems like just like their bigger brothers there are great ones and then there are shitty ones. Any help would be appreciated.

One of the flexible joints gorrila pod-type things might be just what the doctor ordered for you.

Gorillapod is probably the best. I have a small, flexible one by Olympus that I carry in my bag. It will suport my EOS 5D with a fairly good sized lens.

Minipod

One of these days I'll get a Gorilla - they can wrap around and hang on posts, etc.

:-o

I don't think "support" is the right term in that shot. More like "balanced precariously".

I have a $2 tripod that looks something like that, but is probably of crappier make. The legs came off pretty easily. I'd consider balancing a P&S on it, but not my SLR.

I actually have a Velbon Maxi tripod. It's $100 and a full height tripod, but folded up, it can get pretty low. It's also sturdy when not fully extended.

Not to worry - Gorillapod is on the way from B&H. :)
