Recommend a CPU + Moboard for Video and Photography

I would like to get some recommendations to upgrade my desktop. I am currently using the following:

Phenom II 945 3.0 Ghz x4
550W OC PSU
560Ti 1g video card
8gb RAM DDR 3 (4 slots)
2 TB HDD
24inch viewsonic monitor

I use various editing softwares but mostly Adobe CS5.5. I would like to see some improvement in processing time and transfer rate from my memory card readers to hard drive. I don't know the exact model of my mother board but it doesn't have a USB 3.0.

I need a motherboard with a USB 3.0, 4 slots of DDR3, an option to do SLI in the future. I rarely do gaming.

My budget is around $400 or less. I'm not sure if that is enough. Will an i5 be enough or go with an i7? Can I use my existing cpu heat sink? Thanks.

You can get the legendary Sandy 2600k . 300 dollars. You will then have 200 dollars saved up for a SSD or upping the RAM to 16GB. Your choice. Also video card matters in CS5 ,,,,,,,, and your set with that.

I'd say better get an SSD for a real improvement in performance. A Phenom II is not as good as an i5/i7, but I don't think it should be holding you back much, especially with a GeForce GTX560Ti. I'm not saying it wouldn't be better, I'm just saying there's no need to rush as you already have a more than decent CPU

Also, you can save up some cash and wait for Piledriver/Haswell, and then you should REALLY be stepping up from your current system in every sense. You could also get another graphics card, but that's up to you.

You can buy a 2-Port USB 3.0 card for around $20. And putting the money towards an SSD drive will speed up your computer overall.

I'd wait personally on the cpu/mb part.

Transfer speeds from memory cards are dependent on the card speeds, memory card reader speed and drive speed. What speed are your memory cards and what memory card reader do you have?

You would be better and cheaper of buying a Phenom X6 if you must go that way.

Nothing is going to speed up card readers. They read on the order of 4-12mb/s even usb 2.0 transfers near 50mb/s.

I've yet to see read speeds as low as 12MB/s, and uSD(HC) is the only non-USB flash I use, these days. Readers vary from integrated to DX to Meritline (no slowness or data corruption, so why spend real money? ). A USB 2 reader will be limited to around 25MB/s or so, just from USB 2. With UHS SD, or fast CF cards, and a USB 3 reader, there's no reason not to expect 30+MB/s. The flash device itself will be a limiting factor.

I use 400x CF Lexar cards and 133x SD UHS card from Sandisk. The USB 3.0 should, in theory, increase the transfer rate which is what I am looking at improving.

Processing time is secondary which includes the RAW and video files.

Like, hardwareheaven usually includes PS in their cpu benches.

Get a usb 3.0 pci express card, and a usb 3.0 card reader. It doesnt sound like you even need a cpu upgrade.
