I'm running Vista now and my old Visioneer 5800 is not supported. I basically just use it to scan rebate forms, make copies, etc. I scan the occasional picture, but it's not a real issue for me. Cheaper the better!

I like Epson scanners. I had great luck with my Epson perfection 4180.

You can pick up the Epson v200 scanner for about $85 at new egg.

You can also pick up a canon scanner for $50 and $70, but they have a significantly lower optical resolution. It would make a significant difference in the quality of scans made when using it on photos.

I'd go with the Epson scanner though. Better resolution, can scan negatives and transparancies and I've had nothing but good experiences with Epson for driver support.

Weird, I'd tried the XP drivers previously but I didn't install them with XP SP2 compatibility. That did the trick, thanks!
