Long story short, dad's not too tech savy. Bought him an etrex legend years ago. He literally gave it back after a year of non use.

Now he's a hiking, traveling fool. He has an old car GPS but it doesn't geocache and he wants to do it badly.

Suggestions?

(I've read up on etrex 10, Dakota 10, the 20 & 30 versions of both, etc.)

The Garmin Oregon 450 has been discontinued (new 600 line just out), so you may be able to get that on sale/clearance. It's still not "cheap", but should be one of the best. Otherwise, you already listed the cheaper Garmin models.

Thanks for the info. Even used that puppy still holds a price.

Any idea if the color screen of the 20 series stuff makes it worth that much more than the grey scale of the 10 series?

I know he'll use it a lot out in the sunny desert and I wonder if the grey scale screen might not even be better for that purpose?
