recommend a carpet cleaner?

i'm in the market to buy a carpet cleaner. we never had one before but the house we moved into is 10 years old and needs a cleaning. i think it'll probably be a hoover or bissell model but i don't know which to choose. i see a bissell 9500 on amazon for $300 that gets around 4.5 stars...any recommendations?

No sure on a good cleaning machine (my recommendation is to rent this)...however; Folex is excellent for spot removal.
