For my sister. Japanese, ~120k miles, ~$3000-3500 budget.

I'm thinking 1998 Honda Accord as first choice

In that budget you really can't narrow it down to a specific car. The newest/best maintained honda/toyota would be ideal...

That is a pretty good idea, might want to add in Nissan as a possibility (their resale is lower, so you may find a lower-miles / better equipped example for the same price).

you've got like 4 options

camry
accord
civic
other lame japanease vehicle

They all ride/drive the same imo. Just pick one that is in the best shape at that price range.

civic or corolla. the camry or accord will be older and therefore probably more inclined to break sooner.

you can say what you want about their reputation for quality being BS, but for the price range i would be willing to bet large amounts that a mitsu or subaru would be not quite so reliable. perhaps a sentra or altima would save you a little cash over the honda/toyota, but it seems like they're not much different pricewise.

How about a Mazda Protege5 wagon? It's a good car and cheaper than overpriced Toyondas.

edit: Nevermind, just took a quick look and apparently, many people like the Protege5 because they aren't cheap!

old civics actually go for more than accords. For some reason people want them more.

If you're getting a Honda, stick with a 4-banger. They run forever, even the autos.

For $3500, get a Civic.
