Ordering a new laptop for a company exec. Needs:
-high quality screen, 1080p IPS or similar
-midsize: 14-15.6" screen ideal
-at least i5 CPU, prefer M series rather than U - don't need an ultrabook
-I'd expect to upgrade RAM and SSD myself so anything out of the box is fine but must not be soldered. Bonus if chassis design makes upgrades easy.
-ultrabooks ok but don't care if bigger - just nothing bigger than 15.6"
-Intel graphics are fine
-Sturdy construction, built to last - thinkpads are great
-Win7 Pro OS strongly preferred
-needs HDMI
-Hopefully in the $500-800 range. Can go to 1000 if needed but prefer not to. This company hates spending money. 😛
I was looking at the Lenovo Y40-80 $750 configuration - it's a U series but at least it's an i7 and Broadwell. My only beefs are that a) I don't trust "gamer" crap to have business class reliability and b) We don't want the heat, noise, cost, or reduced battery and reliability of heavy discrete graphics.
Y40 with a Core i5 4000M+IGP instead of Broadwell U+Radeon graphics... and maybe 100 bucks cheaper or same price with Thinkpad chassis would be perfect.
Thanks guys!
