Hi I'm looking to buy a 32GB SSD for my Dad for his birthday, he uses his computer for mainly software development.

It would need to work with Linux and WinXP. Can you recommend me one please? Looking to spend around $100ish (intel x25 is out of the question lol)

Thanks in advance.

@32gb isnt that alittle small for a software development/er ?
and im assuming alot of small writes which ssd is not the best at doing

but back to topic so far from the few reviews the vertex is looking pretty good

Well he's reteried now and just does a little perl development, afaik he uses programmer file editor how much space can he really need?

I'll take a look at the vertex thanks.

keep in mind that the Vertex is not available yet so if his birthday is real soon then you'll have to look elsewhere. The Vertex has been coming soon since late December and keeps getting pushed back.

get one of the mtron or imation ones.
Also check ebay for 32GB Samsung SLC drives.

Stay away from anything that has a jmicron controller.

coolVariable: I seriously doubt he can get what you suggested...

32 GB are not that expensive.
If he is not will to spend $ to get something good ... he probably shouldn't be buying an SSD.
