I've been wanting a new monitor for a while now, might finally get one after the holidays... please recommend me a 19" LCD! I will probably have a budget of around $280 US ($325 CAN)

Thanks 🙂

For price, this is the one I would recommend:

why?

I'd get an LG L194WT or LG L1932tQ $250 and $290 respectively, @bb. You should be able to get them cheaper. These are some of the best all around lcd's available. Great for gaming, tested and no ghosting by numerous sources, high contrast, though I think it's dynamic, supposably are pretty bright and are great for watching movies. The former is widescreen and the latter is normal 5:4, so factor that in too. If you can specify, what are you using the lcd for? All those prices are in USD FYI.

acegazda,

The LCD that I linked is only $99 after rebates, and that is alot cheaper than $250-$290. The contrast ratio is 700:1, which is as good as any that I have seen. The response time is 8ms which is pretty good. I do not have personal experience with this, but I have spoken to several people that do, and they loved it, so I guess that it doesn't have any outstanding cons. But, if money is no factor, then go with your's.

No, if money is no factor, go with the NEC 20wmgx2. Best LCD in terms of quality for the enthusiest.
Contrast ratios and response times are grossly overrated, especially by no name companies. That 700:1 contrast could very well be the equivelent of a 500:1 samsung panel. The same thing with response, it depends on the panel whether or not there is ghosting.
Check this out for a good comparison of real ghosting stats.
LG makes their own panels, so you know it's not a bin or a knockoff of a samsung, chemei, or some other OEM panel.
To wrap it up, I guess I would leave you with, if you are concerned with high quality video, gaming and multimedia, invest in a solid monitor from LG, such as the ones I mentioned, or check out some samsung panels, many are very good.
If you are only doing light office work and surfing, get a $100 19" screen, just don't set high expectations for it.

Acegazda,

I would have more interest in your comments if they were based on knowledge of the LCD, rather than being guesses about what it might be. Yes, most often you get what you pay for, but that is not always the case. Exactly why do you write this monitor off so quickly?

My comments on the LG are based off of knowlege of the LCDs. Why? Because I have the interest to look into, investigate and draw a conclusion about them. I have inquired to numerous owners and first hand witnesses as to the quality. The one you linked is $100. That alone makes me suspicious (too good to be true?) and then upon further examination, I concluded that the specs aren't all that bad, save the viewing angle that isn't so hot (150/135... horizontal/vertical) and it's probably just a cheap lcd that someone is trying to sell off as a good deal. I might have more interest in this lcd if you had one and told me that games look awesome on it and movies look great too! but alas, no one will tell me that because it's not good enough for anyone to go out and get.

I have two Hanns-g HW191D, and they are great. I paid a little less that $200 each at newegg. Recently I saw them on there for about $180. Hanng-g is not a known company by a lot of people. Do some research on them. They are good at what they do. By the way, these lcds or 19 widescreen.

very good even with games.

that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

The Acer display boasts 300 cd/m² brightness accompanied by a whopping 700:1 contrast ratio, which outshines most competitor specs, and will ensure your photo and video collections are looking tight.

That's from the newegg description of that acer lcd.
I laughed when I read that.
It "outshines" most of the competition b/c it's probably a gouged estimate.
Your photos only look "tight" if you're the original gangsta.

I have seen a few favorable reviews concerning hans g products, to your credit, but they are probably untrained eyes, not knowing what to look for, that's why you go to someone like xtnight to get his opinion, having tested close to a hundred lcds.
