17" LCD
dot pitch: .26mm
response time: <= 25 ms
resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ >= 75 Hz.
viewing angles: at least 160 degrees horizontally and vertically
color support: 32-bit (do they even exist? if not, then 24-bit)
contrast ratio: i don't know, 500:1, i guess, although it's not all that important
price: in the $450 range
good tilting features would be nice, but not required
for pc, and needs a non-dvi connection

i looked at cnet but couldn't find anything useful there. same thing at pricewatch. any help will be appreciated. thanks.

wow, the samsung 172T is just what i am looking for. but the price is no good.

so, i guess, i will have to relax some of the requirements to be able to find an LCD in my price range.

That requirement is pointless. LCDs work best at 60Hz and 60Hz on a LCD is not comparable to 60Hz on a CRT.

can anybody find anything wrong with this: optiquest q170

i have been considering this for a while, and i think i will just go with this. the only thing is that i don't know its dot pitch or its refresh rate when the resolution is 1280 x 1024.

budget is $450 max (it says so in the first message in this thread, but i guess it's hidden between so much stuff, it's hard to see)

aah, AT, thanks for the piece of information about the refresh rate in LCDs. now i'll know better, and i guess i don't have to worry about that optiquest's refresh rate

I recommend you look on newegg.com for some 17" LCDs. They have some damn good prices on ones that are very good and do come within your price range. I buy just about everything on newegg, except small things like keyboards and the like. I was shopping for a 17" LCD for a while but now i'm out of a job and the decision was giving me a headache :p so i'm currently decided on a 19" KDS XF-9E CRT since it is only $185 on Newegg :D. Have you looked at tomshardware.com? Their display section has been riddled with 17" LCD reviews and they narrow down their suggestions. My 7-year old 17" CRT is going bad so I can't afford to wait long, but if I could I was going to wait for the summer when prices decrease more than right now. From what I find, Hitachi and NEC make some very good 17" LCDs. I can't remember the price on the hitachi, but I think the model number is CM174 or something like that. It has an extremely low response time as well (I can't remember but it is below 25ms).

I hope I could be of some help! :)
