I am in the market for a 19" LCD monitor. I mainly play 3D games, so a fast response time is key, but it can't break my pocket book either. A DVI connection would also be a must. I am considering the Dell 1901FP as I can get it new on Ebay for $450-$500 area. Thoughts on that monitor or any others you can recommend?

I am actively shopping for a 19 inch and 17 inch lcd. Anyone who is happy with their lcd please post, as so many models and accurate info is hard to get or understand. I would like the best possible budget gaming, text - lcd.

edit: by budget I mean not top of the line.

No, there's still an inch difference (19" CRT = 18" vis).

I only have in depth expirence of the sony 17 inch monitor and the dell 2001fp 21 inch. Both monitors arrived with no dead pixels and look and perform awsome. However the dell has a much more solid build. For instance the protective screen is much thicker and just feels more solid. Gaming looks better to me and text is much sharper. The sony ran me 450 from new egg and the dell I got on sale during Memorialday weekend for 760 including tax and shipping. I know its a big difference and I would recommend both monitors but if you have the cash GET THE DELL!!

I own an array of lcd's, none however look as good as the Samsung 193p, it is extremely expensive going for about 750 and being only 19'', however has very good gaming responce times, and nearly perfect colour reproduction. The DELL fp series is also very very good...

BenQ and Viewsonic both have 19" LCDs with 12ms response times, but I've only read one review on each, and they were both glowing. Can't remember the models though. :( There is a thread by Nordcine<sp> about it somewhere in here.

toms hardware has a 17" benq reviewed in a mini - multi lcd review. I will likely get a benq, as consumer satisfaction on the ncix site is good.

I will likely get this one for a 17" benq FP 791, still undecided about a 19".

Can't find that model locally, but viewsonic in general are quite pricey. I have a veiwsonic 95f+ and am not too thrilled with the performance, so tend to be a little prejudiced against viewsonic.

For the price the 1901FP is the best you can buy for a 19inch lcd for gaming. I play a lot of Battlefield 1942 and Unreal Tournament 2004 and I noticed a small amount of blurring/ghosting on brighter lit maps. But it's not bad though. I barely see it at all now though because I am used to it. It was more noticeable because I have always used a crt for gaming and as far as crisp clear moving images go, nothing beats a crt. I am using the dvi on the 1901FP and this seems to make Windows look a lot clearer. The other thing I like about the lcd is the colors seem a light brighter and more vibrant than any crt I've used. My advice though for 450-500 the 1901FP is as good as you can get.

PS: It's also got a 25ms response time I believe which is pretty darned good for a 19inch
