i don't exactly know where to post this..but since this is storage and drive relatedi think i will post it here..lol

recently i have encounter some drives and directory related crisis that get me start thinking of back up my system and managing partitions...

i have looked into system back up and partition managing applications..as i am using the vista ultimatex64 it already has a backup application, the windows complete PC backup..and i think it sholud work ok..and partition managing application i have chosen the Acronis Disk Director Suite..

One of my friend recommended the Norton Partition Magic as it comes with the directory mapping function as well..(like say i want to change the letter for D: to E:.After the change all the applications that stored on the D: will fail as the directory change..so need a mapping)

However the Norton Partition Magic does not work on the vista..therefore i need to get a mapping application..

Does anyone here can advise me on this?

thanks:)

Forget about mapping applications. They wouldn't work right either. Just right click on "my computer" ("computer" in vista) and select "manage". Then click on the disk drive management, and right click the one you want and choose change drive letter. After you do that, manually fix any program that doesn't work (aka, reinstall it if it doesn't work).

For your backups, i recommend secondcopy.com

Norton partition magic hasn't been updated in years, literally. They aquired powerquest partition magic in 2003, rebranded it norton, and stated there will be no new versions...

It is completely outdated and defunct.

Either get a GOOD pay one like acronis.

Or my favorites are gparted and clonezilla. both open source tools for doing what those pay programs do.

I wouldn't touch anything from norton with a 10 foot stick anyways.
