Recomended Vista Partition Size?

What is the recomended partition size for Vista? I did a little research and found that Microsoft was recomending 20-25GB minimum for partition size and was wondering if that would be acceptable.

I typically like to keep the OS partition as small as possible without creating problems. I pretty much install only the drivers and essential programs on that partition. All applications or games with any size get installed on another partition or another drive.

Currently, with XP, my partition size 8GB, with 4.5 available and it works perfectly. But have no idea what Vista should be. So my plan was 10GB XP Partition, 25GB Vista Partition and dual boot them.

I'd go higher. I'm using 40GB at the moment. Then again, I install most applications on the C partition because they would have to be reinstalled anyway after a reformat, unless it's something like MAME that unpacks into a folder. I could see installing games elsewhere because they're so big that the needed space would be hard to calculate, but they'll probably have to be reinstalled too.

Also, bear in mind that you should have room for the page file to grow if needed, and to keep around 15-20% always free for easier defragmenting. It will also depend on whether you use the Recycle Bin and System Restore, and how much space they can use. The hibernation file will take up as much space as your RAM, but that can also be disabled if you don't hibernate.

I'm going to second Drexl here. Anything less than 40GB runs the risk of overflowing due to patches, installed applications, temp files, etc.

Ok, thanks for the information. It looks like I might remove the partition from my 74GB raptor then. I was going to get a 7200.10 500GB Seagate drive, but the 7200.11 are just around the corner. I guess it will do for now.

Thanks for the advice!
