Recomended 17" lcd

I need to get a new monitor, and I decided to go for an LCD. My current monitor is 19" crt that isnt flat, so a 17" would have the same viewable area. From my limited knoweledge of monitors, getting a 19" lcd with a fast response time and an 8 bit panel is hard or expenisve. I was wondering if there are 17" lcds that have what I'm looking for, since I would guess it would be easier to include that sort of thing in a smaller lcd.

Unfortunately, virtually all the low response time 17" LCDs use 6-bit TN panels. You'll have to move up to a 19" panel to find a low response time non-TN panel (i.e., a 8-bit panel). The new Viewsonic "overdrive" LCDs are probably your best bet for this.

Otherwise, you are probably looking for a low respone time IPS panel, and I think the 20" Dells are your best buy for one of these.

I should add that I going to be using this monitor watching videos, doing photo editing and graphic design, and gaming. The fact its an 8 bit panel is important for the photo editing.
