Hi everyone,

I will have to replace one of my systems soon, so I'll get a p4c800e w/ 1 gig of ram.

As for the processor, I will prob. get a 3.2 prescott. After reading many post, it seems like the Prescott's run a little warm.

So can anyone recommend a safe extreme cooler setup ? (vapor chill , etc.)

Also do you think a antec truepower 430 will be enought for my system ? (4 scsi hd's, 3 cdrw's, 1 tape)

I also plan on getting a NV40 board when they are available.

Thanks for the recomendations.

Regards,
Jose

Get a HUGE heatsink that covers the entire side of your case, and an industrial petrol driven air blower. Should cool things relatively well.

OK - serious post;
1) vapochill is fine - prescott uses the same loading mechanism as the P4C, so any cooler that worked with northwood will work with the prescott. However, if you were used to seeing about 30degrees temp, you should expect a higher temp if you use the same heatsink. A copper cooler like the ZALMAN CNPS7000A-Cu should be enough and pretty silent.
2) with that i would get something more just to be on the safe side. Consider a 500w or 550w model to be extra safe.
3)you might wait for a prettl long time - i usually buy things just when they are released - it is a safe bet that it wont be replaced for some time. Remember radeon 9700pro? how many people suggested waiting for NV30? BLOODY EVERYONE! then, when it turned out 4 months later, it was still performing slower than the radeon - and dont get me going on the fan......meanwhile i bought a 9700pro as it hit the stores, and watched the people who were going to wait for an nv30 go to the stores and buy a radeon 4 months later for the same price!

You have made a great decision on the Prescott never mind what the AMD user say stock cooler wellwork fine i suggest the Sunflower cooler it works great YOU well see higher temps than your use to but the P4 800FSB also run hotter You got to be careful about your Ques. at this site it is a sanctuary for AMD users remember when the SIS 655FX came out this site couldn't wait to print results of that dog SIS655TX has been out for a while now and not 1 review yet, is it because it eats the intel offering up and spits it out???????????? and I am an Intel man all the way,but the SIS655TX rocks

Thanks for the replys, I think ;)

I'll look into the vapor chill to see it's pro's & cons. Right now I have a Zalman AlCu 7000 heat sink. Is there a way to change the fan on one of these units.

I'd like to travel to Alaska some day. :) Maybe getting a Prescott is a good reason . ;)

I've had good success with the Thermalrights. Maybe check out the SP 94 or SLK 948U or whatever their latest greatest is that fits your mobo of choice. And run a 92 mm fan, maybe even an adjustable one like the YS-Tech or something.

My not quiet Lian Li PC65 has 6 fans and is adjacent to an always cracked window the gets plenty of fresh Montana air (plenty cold). I suppose that's getting close to AK cooling. ;)

I think I'll go w/ the Thermalright SP-94 w/ a panaflow 92mm var. speed fan & try Artic Silver 5.

I think this should give me the best air-cooled setup. I'm wary about trying a water cooled system.

Couple this w/ a pair of 120mm case fans and the system should be fine. Besides Intel warrantee's
the proc for 3 years.
