I have a Canon I560 printer I bought used for a backup printer that I want to store long term.

1. Should I leave the ink tanks in the printer or remove them and store them separately?
2. How about the print head? Same thing?

I went through and checked the printer. All is ok. I cleaned the bottom of the print head as it was covered with dried ink. I also cleaned those soft nylon cleaning tabs by the foam pads where the head parks.

Thanks in advance.

I would take the ink tanks out and toss them. Flush the head with warm distilled water until the water comes thru clear. I'd seal the head in Saran Wrap or something that will keep the head from drying out (all the water evaporating). That should do it. Canon ships heads with some kind of fluid in them, but IDK what it is.

I have already done that. I'm going to use up the 'tanks' that came with this used printer (a bunch of
"Carrot' brand refills). I cleaned and sealed (best I could) the printer itself. I will store the head (soaked in window cleaner and dried, sealed in Saran wrap) and the other unopened 'tanks' downstairs away from the temperature extreams of a un-heated attic.

you did the right thing by NOT discard "carrot" thingy because you will need it to restore printhead for long term storage. I did that with my trusty Canon BJC-6000 printer.

"carrot thingy.....you will need it to restore the printhead"?? Huh??

I will use those Carrot tanks in my 1st printer (same model) and then use up all the other brand new tanks that came with this used printer that I got through Craigslist. Then I will go back to using the modified ColorBat tanks and ink as I have been doing.
