Hey.

well.. here is a thought. I've been wanting to get a digital camera for..maself for ..everyday use.. u know.. taking a picture of yourself everyday? But i've been putting it off because i see a new model coming out (smaller yet better) just about every week with better spec..

So, today i decided i'll buy maself a decent.. digital carema.
I don't wanna spend more than US$300 but i do want to get one that can last me quite a while. Well.. I don't know.. at least..2-3 years down the track without going out of fashion?

Can you guys suggest good solid, good looking, small, value digital camera? plzzz?

I don't much care about.. features.. but i do want good picture quality nonetheless. U know.. like.. over 3mega pixel..

And it has to be..quiet small.. and light (also available in other colours than silver or black..) oh and i don't need taking movie clips..

Doesn't have to have zoom..

hmm.. i think that's about it..

you should look into Canon Powershot S230 perhaps.. virtually all 2-3Megapixel Digital ELPHs (or IXUS if you're in Europe I think) should suit your need. also you can check out Nikon 2500 and 3500. here are a couple of sites that can help you with your decision.

www.steves-digicams.com
www.dcresource.com
www.dpreview.com

I personally would get the S230 (it's a little more than $300). 3 Megapixels, quite small. 3x optical zoom and takes compact flash cards - I think they have the best capacity/price ratio.

Another vote for the Canon Powershot Elph series. I have a S400 myself and it kicks so much butt!

i have the s230, and i'll have to say it's small, but not light at all... (i love the camera still, dont mind the weight)

anywayz, my dad just bought minolta dimage ti from japan. i'm not sure if it's out in USA yet, but it's even smaller and lighter than the older model, dimage X/Xi. you should consider it. (my dad got it for around $340, i think)

other really small ones are pentax (spelling?) and casio's slimx (not sure about model name, too lazy to look up, but i think u should get the idea) Personally, i wouldnt go for casio b/c they usually dont have much experience with camera; i only know they make cheap watches. and as for pentax, a friend of mine has one. he likes it, but he doesnt know much about technology, so i wouldnt count of his words.

sony makes some really small digicam too, but they feels cheap when u hold it. they feel not well built/not solid.

i'd recommend either cannon or minolta

PS: most cameras now have optical zoom, and can take video clip. u may think you dont need them, but they are really nice additions. you might find yourself using those features alot.

of the Pentax and the Casio I think the casio is a better one. www.dpreview.com has reviews of the three current leading small cameras. the Canon S400, Pentax Optio S and the Casio whatever. the Casio and the Pentax are the smallest of these three. but all of them cost more than the $300 you're willing to spend.

the small Sony cameras U10 and U20 are a poor choice I think. from what I gathered from reviews is that they have less controls, smaller LCDs and lack optical zoom. maybe I got a wrong impression.

dunno about the Minolta, but the Dimage X has somewhat worse pictures than the Canon ELPHs I think (only seen it in reviews and on an expo). it's pretty small though.

I like the Sony DSC camera range. There are many of them to choose from for any budget, and they won't get old fast style-wise.
