seeing as mine just died completely mobo and CPU, don?t know how i managed that, but at least my HDs are fine

anyway i need a new one Desktop and im kinda outta the loop so i need your help

want it to be an AMD 64 3000+ - 3400+ depending on $$$$
and a mobo for it
i don?t plan on OCing much, so doesn?t need to be something crazy
I have a Gig 2x 512 of Corsair 2700DDR that is fine, will that work with a A64 or do i need new ram also?
I also need a case and I need a big one, one that will hold 2 CD-Rom drives and 5 Hard drives, and a floppy and not have it all crammed in there

i have an Antec Truepower 430 that is still fine , if it will work with a A64 mobo that would be awesome if not what do i need to look for in a new one?

also does serial ATA make that big of a diff, i don?t mean the 10K drives but on the regular ones?
i currently have 2 40 gigs, a 80 gig and a 120 gig that work fine and would just use them again, and 2 of them have a ton of data on them that i don?t want to loose, i would like to get a new huge drive for backup maybe a 250gig or something,

so let me have it, id say keep it under 600$ it should be doable for that, ill most likely get as much as i can from newegg

So

Well, I haven't built an a64 rig yet, but I have been looking at a similar upgrade as you.

1) I looke at a 3000+ and it came to ~645 (but I need new ram and no case)
2) I think you can reuse your ram.
3) I think the asus board base on the via chipset (kt800?) is respected right now, any one else have recommendations on this?
4) I think you can get away w/ your PS too.
