Recomend me a heatsink/fan for an X2 4200+

I've decided to order a dual core CPU today, going to go with the X2 4200+. Recomend me a good heatsink + fan combo. Noise is my number 1 priority, however I would like to overclock to 2.4-2.5 if possible. I would like a combo that offers better noise + cooling then the stock heatsink/fan setup.

That may be quiet, but exspensive. A nice aluminum XP90 is $25 at SVC.com, and a planaflo is $10 for the fan, and it is very quiet (don;t have the space, but you can barely hear it)

Either of those TR coolers is good . . . look for thermal resistance data on the CNPS-9500 by Zalman -- to see if it trumps the XP120's 0.167 value.

That Lian Li case is a good choice for off-the-shelf water-cooling kits, and I believe you could even enhance it a bit with foam-board ducting over the mobo and water-block to channel air out the back-side exhaust fan. The gains from the ducting are not likely to be as noticeable as with a heatpipe cooler with fins, but it might assist with cooling chipset and memory.

if you dont want the xp-90, which is just huge in my opinion. the thermatake PIPE101 and thermaltake Silent CAT9 give me 52CFM and cool an overclocked 4400+ at a point where u really have to listen for it to here the fan at all. I would estimate it at less than 30dB but more than 25dB.

I have my x2 4200+ at 2.475ghz with the stock AMD cooler, it's plenty quiet, and my load temps are at 51c with 2 instances of prime95. I have a sonata II for a case, so that probably helps keep the noise down too. An XP-90, or one of the Zalmans would be good too if the stock is actualy too loud for you.

Any of the coolers mentioned would be good for you - esp thermalright xp90 and xp120.

If you are going to use an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, than definetly go for the XP120. The reason is because the heatsink/fan will sit right over the heatsink for the heatpipe, and will help keep it nice and cool. This is the setup I have and it works extremely well.

I'm at 2.7ghz with a low speed Nexus fan.

Still undecided on the heatsink/fan......decided to go with the 4400+ at the last minute. I'm going to throw it in stock and see how loud that is, and then go from there.

Hmm... Zalman Reserator anyone? Hehe, it's my dream/wishlist watercooling kit but supposedly it should be absolutely silent/quiet while being able to cool a 2.4/2.5 overclock with ease. Maybe I'm just a Zalman fanboy. *shrug*

The overwhelming response seems to be XP-90/120, probably with good reason, but the Zalman CNPS7700Cu is pretty efficient and silent too. You might want to consider it as an alternative.
