Returned a Samsung 940b, absolutely would not save my adjustments no matter what, their software locked my rig up every time, there's just no way that monitor looked as good as my Viewsonic G90F but thats another story.

Are Phillips decent crt's?

Is a refurb a gamble? http://www.accurateit.com/index.asp#

What are these horizontal lines i hear about with trinitron tubes?

The horizontal lines are only visible on the 22" (or so) CRTs, if I remember correctly. Never heard about it on smaller, 19" monitors. (I use a 17" Samsung CRT. Not Great, Could be Worse.)
I think NEC/Sony/Viewsonic make some pretty great CRTs. I personally loved the Sony 17" CRTs (no idea what model) in my college lab (before they replaced all the machines with IBM Think Centers). There was something great about those Sony Trinitrons.

I had a 17" trinitron monitor that had 2 lines in the middle of the screen. However, these lines were only visible when the screen was very light (like on windows startup or web browsing). Most of the time I forgot they were even there.

my 19 mitsubishi diamond pro has the lines, but you never notice them if you dont go looking for them. i usually forget they are there. this monitor rocks.

need to sell this beast, though :/

It seems Samsungs CRT quality control went to hell over the last couple years,I wouldnt buy the 997 if I were you.. I took a gamble and bought a used 24" Sony FW900 CRT off ebay and couldnt be happier.

I bought 2 Dell P991s (Trinitron) from Craigslist for $80. They are available at good prices many places.

These are flat screen and have a great picture.

I save of of my LCD adjustments in my video driver (ATI Tray Tools) and don't bother using the adjustments on the LCD. This works a lot better, for me at least.

All trinitrons above 15" will have 2 faint lines on the screen, but its not really an issue.

Here is another site for 19" CRTs:

This one has free shipping:

If I was buying a CRT I'd go for something larger, like 21", though:

Yes, I am aware of the Trinitron lines. I also use a 19" NEC Multisync that has the lines, a Trinitron as well then.

The only time I see them is in white, its minor though.

What is another tube with comparable quality, minus the lines?
