Recognition of excellent service from Crucial

We are usually quick to bitch about poor service from companies, so I felt it only fair to report a very good service experience.

I had had 2 512mb sticks of Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 for a long time. They were originally in a rig with 2 1gb sticks to make 3gb in a Win XP rig. They were later moved to another rig with 2 other 512mb sticks for a 2gb setup.

One stick finally failed after all this time.

I called Crucial after I could not find the sticks listed on Crucial's site. I was told that the sticks were no longer produced, nor ever to be in stock again, and were therefore out of the limited warranty.

The rep asked me to hold while he talked to his supervisor. Hold time was only a minute or two, and he advised me that his supervisor had authorized 2 1gb replacement sticks for my 512 sticks and gave me an RMA number. He also pointed out that the recommended voltage was different for the new sticks (lower actually).

I sent the sticks USPS, and received the new sticks UPS. Turnaround was less than 2 weeks.

So, a tip of the hat to Crucial.

Thanks for that, Jack. Good performance should always be recognized.

You're right, too high a percentage of posts (particularly about service) come from the dissatisfied customers. That applies to everything from tech company customer service to politics. Sometimes it can make you lose perspective on all the good people out there...

So this is good to hear!

Ya, I sent back plenty of that. Great yours lasted so long. A big batch of the higher voltage stuff failed awhile back.

Crucial RMAd all mine w/o a wimper! (and fixed the problem)
yea i have a kit of that memory, still going good so far though no issues, i think it was from before that bad batch. the other kit my friend shmee has (i got this kit from him) was bad out of the box though, wouldnt run rated speed at rated timings even with a small volt increase. both kits had the same part number.

I had one set of each and had to swap them both out because of the voltage change. The one set (newer) had died twice but the exchange was easy. I just had them charge the new ones sent and they gave me credit when they got the old stuff so no down time......

Kind of why I wish they had the best SSD out, they are a stand up company!

Going by all the 3rd party benchmarks on the c300 series, they (Crucial) kinda "do" have the best (or at least very close to the top) SSD out there in price/Gb/performance for the larger sized drives. There was an issue with usage drive states that Anand ran into (and very, "very few" others had) that was fixed. The only other major problem was a firmware upgrade bricking issue that was caused by crappy 2nd and 3rd SATA controller motherboard implementations (relative to the primary SATA controller).

"Best" is usually a personal opinion and in this case I agree with adamantinepiggy.

I've only had three RMAs with Crucial but they've always stepped up to the plate with class. :)
