Several years ago I saw this on TV and I'm trying to track it down. It's a pretty simple recipe you can make with stuff out of your kitchen, I think they used Kool-Aid for flavoring.

Anyone have any ideas where I can find this?

Hehe interesting request. Not sure WHY ON EARTH you'd want to make your own, but to each his own. Good luck :)

with gum costing 5 cents a piece, I'm not surprised that there aren't many bootleg gum recipes on the web.

good luck though, sounds like an interesting experiment

Here you go, thanks to google.com.

The following recipe is adapted from Ms Demeanor?s Bubble Gum Page available at http://welcome.to/BubbleGum .

Ingredients

1 cup flour
Cheese cloth or dish towel
Running water

Method

Put flour in the middle of the cheesecloth or towel and draw up the ends. Hold under running water and squeeze into a ball until the starch is removed. A ball, about half an inch in diameter will remain and can be chewed to blow bubbles. Add instant gelatin powder to add flavour.

AAAAAACCCKKKKK! I've tried this one. Believe me, it's awful. This 'recipe' was developed during the war when all of our supplies (like sugar) were going to troops overseas. It is a gum substitute, but not something you'd want to chew unless you had to.

I think the recipe I saw used sugar...
