Currently have
Samsung 56" DLP LED
Toshiba A-35 HD-DVD
xbox 360
wii

looking to get either the Onkyo 605 or 705
leaning twords the 605 cuase i don't need the extra HDMI and 10wat/ per channel won't make that much of a diffrence and not to worried about THX

i listen to the Klipsch Rb-61 bookshelf at local audio store and sounded very good
local dealer has them on closeout for $379 which seems good price

and saw a Klipsch Rcx-4 for $139 but did not have a chance to hear that.

i plan on slowely getting speakers and subs as my budget will allow but main focus is on the reciever and two front speakers for the first purchase

what do you guys think and any suggestions would be great.

thx

Can the 605 do all of the high def audio decoding? If so, then just go with that.

The 605 can do all of the HD audio decoding.
If the extra features on the 705 are not that big a deal, stick with the 605 then.

I went with the 605 because I didn't want to deal with the lipsync issues with the 705.

Not sure what Lipsync features your referring to, can you elaborate, cuz ive never had the issue.

I personally opted 705 for the extra HDMI port (With an A35, Cable Box and HTPC/Game Console its nice to have the 3rd), Audessy Multi-EQ setup (8-way instead of 2-way), the 7.1 Pre-outs instead of just SUB pre-out (HUGE for future upgradability), The Powered Zone 2, The THX DSP's and most importantly the blue light on the Volume Dial :p

Also the 705 has a fan built into the chassis which keeps it a bit cooler than the 605.

Either way you will be happy with both receivers, I just chimed in to point out why I went 705 over 605, though everyone has different needs.

Klipsch speakers are good, but have quite a range of quality. I find Klipsch to be a bit to sharp for my tastes, but it depends on the person.

The models above the 605 have an additional audio processing chip. This can cause cases where the audio and lips in the picture don't line up. If you google "sr705 lipsync" it will bring up some threads from the avs forum.

I have the 705 and love it. I have only noticed the lip sync issues on one movie.
