So I recieved the drive yesterday and had it set master along with my panasonic 8x dvd-rom drive. The first thing I did after letting WinXP install the drivers was to test out wether it worked. No luck at all, the drive had problems reading my BF1942 disc or even a DVD movie. It would just freeze up windows. So I dl/ed the latest 1.14 firmware and flashed it (it shipped with an old 1.06 revision). A quick restart and finnally its reading my CD/DVD's. I then started to RIP my DVD collection. The first movie I tried ripped fine at about 4x-5x in speed (quite slow). Burned it to generic newegg 4x-DVD-R at plays fine in my home dvd player. The next two DVD's I try to RIP error out, but when I rip using my Panasonic dvd-rom drive it rips fine.

Is the Pioneer drive picky about reading media? Or did I just get bad drive? It burns fine tho.

So should I RMA?:)

Thanx!

Update: With the Pioneer drive connected by itself on the IDE cable, it rips the DVD's I had problems with fine. So I guess it just doesn't like to play nice with my DVD-rom drive.

Ripping it capped at 4X by the firmware,so unless you put a hacked firmware in there you'll be always capped at 4X for ripping.

as for picky about media? no I found the opposite with my 107.

since you have a reader & burner why not use your dvd reader to rip since that's probably why you left it there in the first place right? ;)
