in today's mail we got a letter to my SIL C/O my wife.

at first we thought maybe she put her down as co-signer (wich we did not agree to or sign anything). We called the SIL and she said she only put us down as a Referance.

the bill looks pretty close to saying we owe the money because its behind. After really looking at it you can tell its not. its just a letter to the SIL at my address with my wife's name.

i thought stuff like this was against the law?

Just because it may be against the law doesn't mean they won't try it anyway...

They are letting you know. If you pay it they get lucky.

I had a similar problem where a collection agency for an ex starting searching my contacts...would call my family friends and work saying *I* owed them money.

We have a pretty good attorney friend that followed up for us.

Theres no way they could hold your wife responsible as a reference ... unless she co-signed the loan you have nothing to worry about.

Damn, man...I'm thinking your family/in-laws have some serious issues. Haven't you posted other threads about how fucked-up they are?

I got a letter the other day advertising/soliciting website search engine listings, presented as a bill. On the back, very bottom, said the tiny print "not a bill". Yea, it should be illegal.
