Rechargeable NiMH batteries

I have a flashlight that only recommends alkalines. Does anyone have idea why this might be? Is there any specific reason I can't use NiMH rechargeables?

This is just a guess, but I think NiMH's will slowly discharge so they aren't very good for sitting on a shelf & waiting for an emergency, like you might normally expect to use a flashlight.

Otherwise I think they'd be OK.

Yep, that's probably the reason.

There is no reason why you can't use NiMH batteries in it though. Just don't expect the flashlight to be full power after sitting for a month.
