NiMH with a high capacity, try to get 2100 mAh (that's milliamp hour) capacity or higher. I think they have 2300 or maybe 2400 mAh.

My new digital camera doesn't use AA, so I haven't bought any for a couple years. Last batch I bought 2100 mAh was the highest they had. I found brand doesn't really matter since they're all probably made in the same factory.

EDIT: If you want a brand you recognize, look for Energizer 2300 mAh NiMH.

I could care less about brand names. Have you used these personally?

The Energizer 2300 are great, Sam's Club has a 8pack plus charger for $19. I use them in my Pentax istD and A75 and they seem to last for days. I think the 16pack of just the batteries is around the same price as well. Look at the batteries though, they sell 1800, 2100, and 2300 in the exact same packaging and price. They are supposedly rebadged Sanyos and are generally considering top performers. The charger is a bit of a pain, I suggest getting a RipVan Lightning 4000N instead if you want faster recharges and conditioning. Not a huge fan of Powerizer batteries, I think they tend to overrate them. Link to Nihm battery review Their 1800s ranked similar to 1600 from other companies.

Similiarly, I got the Sanyo brand from Costco. I originally had 1800mAh and they wouldnt work in my digicam.. but i havent had a problem with the ones from costco.. and they last a really long time between charges.

Maha 2100MaH's for me. They are top-rated batteries in pretty much all the digicam reviews. They last FOR-FREAKING-EVER. I mean, MONTHS of mild camera use, WEEKS of heavy camera use (in an A70). I was impressed.

I concur, I bought this along with the Powerex batteries and use them in my camera and wireless mouse. I can use them in my mouse and camera for 2 months or so before I need to recharge them

If you quantity...

http://www.batteryspace.com/

They seem to work just fine in my Canon, CD/MP3 portables, HD MP3 portables, my dad's Olympus, etcetc. Some of the batteries have leakage but at that bulk quantity 2-4 leaky batteries isn't bad when you're getting 12AAs + a 2-3hr fast charger for $26

1) Read this

2) Buy from Thomas-Distributing.com or SunnBattery.com (eBay auctions)

3) If you want best bang for your buck go to your local CostCo or Sam's Club which should have 1850 mAH or better rechargeable batteries. We purchased something similiar to this for USD $20.00 which includes the battery charger and 4 AA's.

4) The brands I would stick with are Maha, Powerex, Gold Peak, Sanyo and Panasonic.

So,

Thanks :)

I'm by no means an expert, so those are just my informal recommendations based on reviews and research.

The thing most people need to realize is that generally, most batteries are capable of getting pretty close to their rated output.

But that doesen't mean anything if your charger sucks ass. How well your batteries actually charge is up to your charger. Some of them can suck.

They can, for example, "charge" your batteries quickly, resulting in a lot of heat(heat is a rechargable batteries worst enemy), yet only attain 85% of maximum charge.

Fortunately, most are better than that, getting up to about 90 - 95%, but still..

So.. things to look for in a charger are; low heat generation, generally in the form of optional Slow and Fast charge; A trickle charge function when the batteries are full, which results in a ~99%, etc..

bah, just read RossMAN's post, get the MAHA C401FS charger and the Powerex batteries and be happy.

I can take over 400* pics with my A60 on a full charge with the Powerex 2200mAh's. ;)

*250 - 500 actual, depending on ambient conditions/flash use.
