Yes.

mAh doesn't matter. A lower mAh battery will just charge more quickly. As long as you have a reasonable charger, that is.

Thanks. I bought an energizer 4 pack a couple yrs ago and they won't hold a charge now so I need to get new ones.

I bought some Rayovac 4-pack AA Ni-MH batteries at Wal-Mart recently...$5.97 per 4-pack. I bought 8 packs of AA and 2 of AAA....they've been lasting as long as the Energizers I already had.

Most chargers will put out 800 - 1000mA in a Fast mode and 150-300mA in slow mode, if they have one.

The general rule of charging is a maximum of 1C.

That is charging at the battery capacity. So the maximum charge rate for the 2000mAh battery would be 2000mAh or 2.0A, and 2500mAh(2.5A) for the 2500mAh cells.

Slow charging is done at C/10.

uh yeah, all true, but still need to know the output on the charger to be able to answer the ops question :p

I was elaborating that it shouldn't really matter, even if his charger is ancient and just uses a timer.

Eneloops and this charger. :)

I got the same charger, but from Amazon.

It's great for charging since it can refresh, discharge, charge, test batteries. It can tell me the capacity of batteries so I know when they're not usable anymore (doesn't hold enough of a charge). Also, it can try to refresh a battery by discharging and recharging a battery until it no longer gains any more capacity.

I've seen nothing in this thread regarding battery chemistry. Don't mix battery chemistries between chargers. Comparable energy storage means nothing if the materials in the cells are different.

Unless the charger can handle them.

I've got a charger that has independent channels for each slot, and it could do NiCad and NiMH at the same time.

But certainly don't mix multiple capacities or chemistries in the device you intend to power.

Looks like a good charger but how are the battereis that come with it? If they will last for a while then do I need additional battereis? If the battereis are not good do they sell the charger alone?

Can you link me to good eneloops?

I don't know how good the batteries are that come with it, though they're not likely to be low self-discharge. I don't recall ever seeing that charger sold by itself.

Eneloops. Amazon also has them, but they're more expensive right now; sometimes they have sales though.
While they're rated 2000mAh, I'd be willing to bet you'll see similar real-world capacity out of them, versus stuff like those 2600mAh LaCrosse batteries.
They're "low-self-discharge" cells, meaning that they keep a charge in storage much longer than regular NiMHs. Regular NiMHs can lose 1% of their charge per day. LSD cells are quoted as losing 15% per year.

thanks for the info.

SO, now I need to decide on the BC700 or BC900. The 700 is newer and is slower charging times. Speed doesn't matter to me.

Should I just get the 700?

I think the 700 is their older model.
The BC-900 allows you to set the charging rate, though I've read that doing so can take a lot of keystrokes.

Wow, I didn't realize it was so low. I need to get me some.

and lol @ LSD batteries ;)

Hmmm, when I went to amazon to check on the bc900 it shows there is a newer model (bc700). Guess you can't believe everything you read.

Ah, well it seems you are right, the 700 is newer. The lower model number is because it doesn't have quite as many bells and whistles, but it should work fine.
My bad.
