Recettear is the story of an item shop, the girl who lives in it, and the fairy who turned her life upside down. Recette Lemongrass finds herself in charge of an item shop built into her house, in order to pay back a loan her father took and then skipped out on - and Tear, her newfound fairy "companion", won't take no for an answer! As Recette, you have to decide how you'll get your stock - either through playing the markets in town or going out into the wild with an adventuring friend and thrashing beasts until they give up the goodies - how much to sell things for, what the shop should look like, and how to best go about getting the money Tear needs to pay off the loan. If you can't come up with the money... well, hope you like living in a cardboard box.
Key features:

  • Manage all aspects of an item shop – from stock to interior design!
  • Explore randomized dungeons – never quite the same twice!
  • Multiple adventurers to choose from when dungeon-diving – no two play the same!
  • Plenty to do after beating the game – challenge yourself with Survival Mode or play to your heart's delight in Endless Mode!
  • Engaging story, localized by Carpe Fulgur – get to know the people of Pensee!
Anyone heard anything about this game? Just spotted it on Steams front page and although it looks a bit 'childish', it could be one of those cool Zelda/Speris Legacy type games.

While not my sort of game, I have read some very good reviews of this. And a game where you play the shopkeeper that buys all those +1 magickal swords has got to have some charm to it... ;)

I don't see that many ATers liking this kind of game, but its interesting to see this kind of Japanese game on Steam for (as far as I know) the first time.

...I kind of want to buy it.

Played the demo twice, took me 1 hour.

Very fun and addictive.

Dungeon gameplay feels like the typical Zelda-type. It's quirky and can be a pig when you realise you can't exit at any time and have to do dungeons in 5 level stints.

The demo is good but as for items, you don't particularly feel a sense of progression whether it be with your hired adventurer equipment or his 'power'.

Fortunes can change very quickly. Outfit your hired adventurer with the best equipment and unexpectedly die, you lose all items + loot except 1 item of your choosing. Conversely one good sales session can net you a fortune in the games money.

I might drop on the pre-order, £11 which is about $16.

Pretty impressed with the graphics too. Some lovely reflection work in the first 'dungeon'.
