Recertified: eVGA 7900GT

okay the wifey has me on a strict $200 budget and i'm looking to move up from my 7800gt, so it's either this 7900gt or a new 7900gs. i know with a 7900gs it will only be a side-grade, but my plan is to keep my 7800gt, since it's going to replace a 7300gt that i have in my second build.

also does anyone have any experience with evga's recertified program?

I bought the recertified eVGA7900GT from Newegg. N562 model @450/1320.
Had it for about 10 days now, and it seems perfect so far. No issues to speak of.
Recertified cards means, returned cards are sent to eVGA to be tested and repackaged as recertified. I would not touch refurbished or "open box" items however as I don't think they are tested before being resold.

So  so far.

just what i needed to hear...also one quick question, does evga lifetime's warranty still apply?

Hmm... I'm also curious about the lifetime warranty.

I notice Newegg now has recertified 7800GT's, which would be very nice for me to upgrade to SLI. I suppose that also raises the question, would going SLI with 7800GTs (probably more around Christmas time) be worth it? Or would it just be better and hold off till DX10 cards hit reasonable prices? Not to hijack your thread.

"Factory serviced and Recertified products are items which have been returned to an authorized factory repair facility for testing, inspection, and repair, or which have been repaired by certified technicians. All factory service products carry the applicable manufacturer?s warranty and Newegg?s 15-day return policy."

sound's like the warranty still applies...

90 day warranty folks. If you want lifetime, you have to go new retail.

😕Eh???

And what is the applicable factory service warranty on recertified products? I see no numbers in your quote there. ??

well i decided to get the 7900gt for $200, that's a hard deal to pass up. if it craps out on me hopefully it will be within the 90 days warranty. thanks for everbody's input.

had to bump this for the 7900GT owners out there.

my card came in last week, so far i haven't had any of the 7900GT issues. monday i did the 1.4v mod and mounted a NV5 rev.3 silencer. the card idles @48c and 68c load.

currently the card is running @630/1800, i've benched the card with the memory as high as 2ghz with no artifacts/freezes. i'm also using Rivatuner for the OCing, but my main issue is that the memory clocks won't stick everytime i startup my PC it always defaults to stock.

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=1922204

i found that thread (post#166) i followed the instructions and still have the same issue...

so either:

1. i'm doing something wrong (PICNIC)
2. the memory can't handle the start up clocks that i set (anything higher than 1700mhz), and automatically return to default
3. i should try another OCing program.

thanks for any input.

Use ATITool 0.25 Beta for overclocking. It is much simpler than Riva.
Keep in mind that you are the one who is responsible if you damage your card by overclocking though.
