Recently, each time I open IE, MSN.com is my homepage...

Each night before I shutdown, I always empty my cache, history, run disk clean-up, Ad-Aware, etc. When I turn on my PC the next and open IE, I have recently found MSN.com as my homepage, despite specifying a black page.

I suspect MSN Messenger has something to do with this, but I'm uncertain. Any ideas?

That's a little paranoid to be doing that every night dood.

Just go back to your options and click on about:Blank for your home page, problem solved. It probably was MSN Messenger, which is why you were never asked to set a new homepage.

a black page?
racist.

I'm fully aware of how to switch it back to blank, but even after doing so, once I turn my PC on the next day MSN.com is right there.

BTW, how do I set IE to purge the cache automatically?

Well, it's certainly not MSN Messenger. Only during installation does it give you this option to change your home page to msn.com, the app itself won't do anything. Something else on your machine, or your config, is doing this.

To purge your IE cache automatically, click Tools->Internet Options->Advanced and check the option "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed".
