I bought a cyberpower ups a little recently. It is in their line of ups's with 'intelligent display'- basically let's you see some stats on a small lcd on the front of the brick.
I was wondering if there is any windows 7-64 compatible freeware out there to use the ups as a 'kill a watt' load meter.
Also, is it benefitial to charge a laptop via UPS outlet vs standard wall outlet or surge protected one?

some UPS's do have this feature, my cyberpower does. If it has USB connection to the computer chances are good it will be able to tell you the power being used. I think im using the software that came on a CD with my UPS and it does this.

If your UPS has that capability, It comes with a CD that enables you to monitor voltage, loads, etc. My APC unit does. It puts an icon in the notification area, and a right click menu includes a "Current Status" choice.

As for charging a laptop's battery, it makes no difference. The notebook's A/C adapter is effectively, its own UPS, and can handle any voltage between 90 and 240 volts. The specific range for your notebook should be labeled on it's A/C adapter.
