Anyone heard of a recent virus that causes your computer to not be able to find your primary drive when booting up? (boot sector vrus I'm guessing)

A friend of mine had this exact same problem earlier this week, which is why I'm thinking it's a virus of some kind...

I turned off my computer last night and when turning it back on it won't boot, it will ask for a boot disk, if you try to boot from the windows CD and try to repair, it will say there is no hard drive connected to the machine.

As I said, it's not just me but a friend as well... I can't seem to find anything on the net about this issue, anyone caught wind of anything like this?

Pick a random word, and there's probably a virus that does what you're describing.

But before you jump to conclusions:

Check your wiring
Check your BIOS

I just though that I'd chime in here to say how absolutely much i despise cliffhanger thread titles that end in ... I think this is the first one I have ever clicked on, and did that just to make this comment. If your thread is so boring that you don't want to post the whole title, then don't bother. Please.

yeah, but i was referring to RECENT virus outbreaks, the other thing you've got to realize is that i'm not jumping to any conclusions. A friend's machine has exhibted the exact same symptoms, which is a bit too much of a coincidence don't you think? that both of our hard drive plugs would fall out in the same week etc?

of course i've already checked the wiring and BIOS, so the problem definatly does not lie with that..
