I right now have the VR6060, which is the same one as the 8060.

Are you kidding me? OP I would much rather you go with a refurb'd H/K or Denon at that price.

The price of the rcvr online is 309.

I am not arguing about the price. In fact I think it should be priced much lower. I do not like Kenwood receivers nor do I think the OP would be satisfied with a Kenwood receiver, that was the point of my above post. I think the OP would be much more satisfied with a quality receiver. Yammy's are nice, good point poster above. Not sure on that model though. Maybe you can find a H/K AVR x30 or x35 series or Denon receiver refurbed at eCost.com. Do some comparisons. You might want to post your needs at AVSForum.com.

Cheers.

Bingo. H/K or Denon. I know someone who just got an avr235 for 349.99. Check buy.com. Don't knock it because of the power numbers being lower than a Kenwood or some other crap. Go listen. Demo it. You'll be happy.

i bought a refurb'd Onkyo from e-cost for ~ $200

6.1 surround .. very, very nice. sounds fantastic, even with my semi-cheap speakers.

There are a lot to choose from. I personally would not buy speakers or a receiver without trying it out in my room at home.

Checkout:
Pioneer 1014
Denon
Yamaha
Onkyo
and H&K

They all have decent receivers in your price range.

If you're ok going used... Denon, Onkyo, and H/K are great deals.

I got an H/K AVR-325 about one year ago for $360 shipped from the ebay seller harmanaudio which is the seller name for H/K, JBL, and Infinity factory refub units.

If you want something new, the Pioneer 1014tx is a great buy in that range.
Easily found for under $400 from a reputable place... like onecall.

The 1014 has gotten great comments at AVSforum. A friend of mine has it paired up with some Paradigm Phantoms and he likes it a lot. It has the same internals as the Pioneer elite 52 but a more sane pricetag. I think it won the "reciever of the year" thread last year at AVSforum.

Onkyo is the best

CalvinHobbes' list covers it all, but Onkyo is pretty much the best although expensive.

I love my Yamaha.

That's personal preference and mine differs. I believe H/K is the best, followed by Denon followed by Onkyo....unless you go REALLY high end.

And I have actually demo'd all three of their flagship models, at home.

The Denon AVR 1705 is $399 at crutchfield (which isn't a super cheap place) and is better IMO than the kenwood. But it certainly is not great for a denon. A 2xxx would be nicer if you can find it for a reasonable price.

He already bought a pos Pioneer.

Sad. To each his own though.

Maybe I should swap my proc for a celeron.
The only sad thing is your brand whore loyalism. The Pioneer 1014 is an awesome receiver for the price.
