I'm trying to run audio from the digital cable box into the HT receiver (Kenwood HTIB) -- I'll have to use the DVD/6-channel setting, since (IIRC) all the other options (DVD/CD, Video 1/2/3, Aux) are all stereo only. I already have a DVD player running to the coax in..there are no audio in (except red/white stereo) jacks on the cable box, so I can't run through it. If I were to hook an RCA splitter up to the receiver, would that solve my problem?

<- clueless, and I'd rather not hunt for the splitter if it's not going to work. :p

I could run optical from the DVD player to the receiver, then coax from the cable box to the receiver...both inputs are on the same setting - should it automatically choose the active one, or will it confuse everything?

I'm lost now. I thought you only had the one digital input?

That Dayton switch will work, but you will have to change the switch yourself.

My apologies - I have several input settings (ie DVD/6ch, DVD/CD, Phono, Video1, Video2, Video3, A/V Aux), but only one (DVD/6ch) setting has digital inputs. That one setting has analog 6ch inputs, optical and coax.

sounds like he has one digital coax and one optical digital. If so, then yes, do as you stated a post or two above.

There should be a setting in your reciver to assign each optical port a device (i.e. DVD/MD/etc....)

You would think that, but some of those htib units have dumb designs. Which model Kenwood do you have CadetLee?
