yoyo AT,

i'm helping a neighbor out with getting new audio equipment. she always gets scammed into buying more than she needs from the local audio shops around here, said last time they tried to get her to get a $1200 remote control (wtf mate?)

anyway it's for a room with 6 ceiling speakers. they have 6 pairs of gold audio wires coming out of a corner. she needs a receiver and a cd player. nothing fancy. like i know she used to use a denon dra-685 for her receiver and a sony cdp-c345 for her cd player which is not like a 500 storage thing or nothing. she needs to get this by her christmas party so she can't wait for internet orders.

also, if the receiver is could be good enough so that she might later expand her system with wireless speakers for her patio.

and something that can play stuff off an ipod or whatever, like an aux input 1/4inch jack

advice is very much appreciated, gracias

What's their budget?

You could go with something like:

Receivers: Onkyo TX-SR606 or Denon AVR-1909

she is basically the opposite of a power user or phile or whatever... she really just needs something so she can play music in her house during social gatherings. so that being said she isn't poor at all but i dont see much reason to spend more than necessary

Just find a reasonably priced stereo receiver from a reputable manufacturer, no need to spend money on surround sound and HDMI switching if she's just hooking it up to a CD player.
